Echo Dot is a hands-free, voice-controlled device with a small built-in speaker. it can also connect to your speakers or headphones over Bluetooth or through a 3.5 mm audio cable to deliver stereo sound to the speakers you choose. Echo Dot connects to the Alexa Voice Service to play music, make calls, send and receive messages, provide information, news, sports scores, weather, and more. If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can even order selected Prime products and other eligible products you’ve ordered before. The Amazon Echo Dot allows you to use all the same functions as the original Amazon Echo just in a smaller size.

The second generation of the Amazon Echo Dot is priced lower, has improved voice recognition, and Style wise the new Dot is slightly shorter than the original Echo Dot. Dot also comes in color black and white.

Voice-Control Your Music

Echo Dot provides hands-free voice control for your Amazon Music account, Spotify, or TuneIn. You can ask for your favourite song, or artist, or even a specific genre and Alexa will play it for you. You can also find music based on when a song or album was released, or search using song lyrics, or let Alexa pick the music for you. Echo Dot is a Bluetooth-enabled device, so you can also stream music directly from your phone or tablet, or using other popular music services, like iTunes.

Echo Dot is sleek and compact, so you can put it almost to any room in the house, and it will never look out of place. It has a small built-in speaker so you can use it as a smart alarm clock that can also turn off your lights, or timer in your kitchen and shop tens of millions of Amazon products using just your voice. Echo Dot can also directly connect to external speakers using a 3.5 mm stereo cable or using Bluetooth to add voice control to your home stereo system.

Far-Field Voice Recognition

Amazon Echo Dot has an array of seven microphones that use beam-forming technology and enhanced noise cancellation. With a more powerful processor, the Echo Dot has improved wake-word performance to hear you ask a question from any direction—even in noisy environments or while playing music.
When you want to use Echo Dot, simply say the wake word, Alexa and Dot lights up and streams audio to the cloud, where the Alexa Voice Service is leveraged to recognize and respond to your request instantly. The new Echo Spatial Perception (ESP) technology allows several Echo and Dot units to work together so that Alexa responds intelligently from the Echo you’re closest to with ESP, only one device answers the request. This is allowing you to have a multi-room setup using more than one Echo or Echo Dot.

Smart Home

Echo Dot works with smart home devices such as lights, switches, fans, thermostats, and more from Philips Hue, TP-Link, ecobee, WeMo, SmartThings, Insteon, Nest, Wink, Caséta and more.

Echo Dot also supports IFTTT (If This Then That), which is a third-party service, which will allow you to create rules that will automate how your devices, apps and websites work together with one another.

Alexa Calling

Making calls with Alexa is easy. Once you’ve synced your contacts in the Alexa App, just ask Alexa to place a call. Alexa will let you know when someone is calling, and a green light ring will appear on your supported Echo device. You can ask Alexa to answer or ignore the call.

In addition to calling, you can use Alexa to easily send and receive messages. Just ask to send a message, then tell Alexa what you’d like to say and she’ll send it. You’ll hear a chime when you have a new message, and a yellow light ring will appear on your device. You’ll also be notified in the Alexa App so you can stay in touch wherever you are.
